Next, open up your control panel. Are there any programs there that you don't use? For example, things that have been downloaded from the Web such as games or toolbars that nobody has touched for awhile. They are things that can take up plenty of memory and can be easily disposed of. Also, if you've any old software that is still installed and no longer serves a function, such as the software for a printer or scanner that you no longer have, you should uninstall it. That will free up even more space and can make that little progress bar start moving a little faster.
Viruses and spy ware can also slow down your PC. There're number of various anti-virus, anti-spy ware, and firewall programs available. You may have some of these on your computer already.
